![]() With iOS 13, the company has added a bunch of features to level up against the rivals. ![]() On iOS, Apple has been improving the default Mail app with each iOS interaction. The apps such as Microsoft Outlook, Spark, and Airmail offer more than basic email experience on a small device. Especially on mobile devices, the modern Email apps aren’t only limited to fetching out mails or composing new ones. That is the best thing about Airmail: It is what you make of it.In the era of Slack and Microsoft Teams, the relevance of Email remains intact to the date. Do I really need to reorder each divider of my email accounts (sent, unseen, drafts, spam)? Nope, but it's there if I or, more important, you want the feature. I don't care if my inbox is labeled in icons or colors, as long as I can distinguish one account from another. It's not the easiest app to use, but it's set up in such a way that the option you need is right where you expect it to be - or is duplicated in several places, so you can't miss it.Īre there useless features here? Subjectively, yes. Select an email and choose "action list" (or make it a swipe if you want to) and you can instantly create a PDF file of your email, load remote images or send it to Dropbox, among other tricks, all of which are usually several more touchscreen presses away. Dropbox, Google Drive, Trello, Google Tasks, Pocket, Evernote and plenty more can all be connected to your inbox. Within the settings, you'll also find one of the most useful features: the sheer number of compatible apps you can pair with Airmail. As it happens, I use a mere iPhone 6 Plus myself, so I didn't get to test that out. If you've got one of Apple's latest phones, you'll also enjoy 3D Touch support for previewing emails. You can even add tasteful spacers (gaps between folders, filters and accounts) if your design aesthetic demands it. You can toggle off starring functionality or sharing from the menus, or, when in the app itself, you can choose which folders (from which accounts) to have in the swipe-to-the-right lineup. ![]() Want to star important emails before you've even opened them? Snooze for later? Archive that newsletter right now? You choose. When immediately dealing with email from my lock screen, I can customize the two options. This is particularly true for things that I constantly do. We've seen Dropbox's Mailbox appear and disappear despite a handful of clever ideas, and Google's Inbox-made automated responses aren't perfect - and then you're already splitting a fraction of users away from the Gmail app itself.Īirmail's appeal on the iPhone is simply how much freedom you have to customize the app. Given that the preinstalled email app doesn't do a bad job, and there's no shortage of challengers, it's hard for any single contender to break through, much less one you have to pay for. ![]() It's hard for email apps on the iPhone to make it big. I'm likely to be in the minority, however. (I live overseas.) And because I deal with email throughout the workday, I'm willing to pay to make it easier. It's not a complicated or elaborate setup, but I lean heavily on email for work, travel, organizing app-based notifications (Twitter, Facebook, Amazon etc.) and communicating with folks back home. While I don't have many inboxes, though, I do have a few legacy email addresses that auto-forward to the main Gmail address. I have two email accounts: my personal Gmail account and my Engadget address (which is also powered by Google). It gives you all kinds of ways to deal with (or delay) the email problem, and it's claimed a space in my hallowed four-space iPhone dock. So here's Airmail for iPhone, which launched last week. However, making a good email app on a smartphone is a whole different can of worms. But when you have a huge screen, keyboard and mouse, a good email app on the desktop doesn't have to try so hard. Airmail is a well-known, well-received email client on Macs.

Her goal in the second act is simply to learn a little more about the monster’s provenance and continue her quest to stop it – and others like it – from terrorizing her world. Vella’s puzzles aren’t any less frustrating, but at least the ship she finds herself on is a little bit different than we remembered it through Shay, abused as it was by the crash landing. Double Fine Productionsĭuring the most frustrating moments of Shay’s quest I simply quit his story and jumped over to Vella – a nice trick happily carried forward from the first act. I literally spent hours just going from one character to the next and dragging and dropping items in my inventory on them until something happened.Īnd when something did happen, I often found myself thinking – angrily – that there was no logical reason why I should have known that it would. The connections between the items you collect and how and where you’re intended to use them are frequently unknowable. Exploration is simply non-existant.Ĭompounding matters, the puzzles – once just minor distractions – have transformed into exasperating exercises in trial and error. This dogged retreading sucks almost all of the originality and creativity out of the experience. ![]() And the writing – particularly a couple bits that involve telling jokes to an easily offended tree and trying to properly describe the shape of a knot – is as charming and knowing as ever.īut – and I can’t emphasize this strongly enough – we’ve seen all of these places and people before. Voiced by the likes of Will Wheaton and Jack Black, they’re bursting with personality. On the one hand, these are some great characters. After a funny little introduction he gives Shay a list of stuff he needs to get his ship working again, and Shay spends pretty much the rest of his time in the game collecting these items by going back to places Vella had already explored and talking to characters Vella had already met. ![]() Shay walks up the beach and into a town, then climbs a hill where he meets Alex, the guy who helped Vella shoot down the monster in the first act. The rush of excitement re-experiencing this terrific twist came rushing back. The stylized, hand-crafted world was just as inviting as I’d remembered, and our two protagonists seemed ripe to continue their fantastical adventure. I was ready to dive in. The two heroes switch places, setting up some interesting possibilities. The brave young Vella falls into to the monster-cum-ship she just destroyed as a confused Shay stumbles out onto the beach upon which it crashed. (SPOILER ALERT – if you haven’t played the first act and plan to, stop reading now.) When you boot Broken Age up and press continue you’ll see the last few moments of the first act play out again. In case it needs saying, I didn’t much enjoy it. The second half of the game shamelessly regurgitates locations and characters, lacks much of the smart subtext and meaning we were able to draw from the first game, and cranks up puzzle difficulty to unfair and un-fun extremes. ![]() Players ended up waiting a surprising long 15 months to get the second half of the tale, but, like many, I assumed that time was being put to good use. It was a pleasure to play, even if its puzzles weren’t all that interesting. Beautiful, funny, and wonderfully clever, Broken Age began as the story of an independent young woman taking a stand and a mollycoddled boy trying to mature into a man. After raking in nearly $4 million in crowd funding, the acclaimed American indie game maker delivered a wonderful first half in its fanciful home-grown point-and-click adventure. ![]() And hopefully provide you with some words of encouragement and inspiration as well. ![]() I take some time at the end of each week to jot down some final thoughts about the jazz panel skill that we just explored in the weekly podcast. ![]() Or once you land on that page, if you want just simply scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll see an entire blog section. For this list, well be looking at the aspects of Disney animated films that have not appeared often or prominently. With Bob Iger returning as CEO of The Walt Disney Company, he may be able to find the special sauce that brings animated movies from Disney and Pixar back to the pinnacle of what they were before the pandemic- great stories that touched people despite age, race and culture. And, indeed, the fantastical realm of Element City is gorgeously. In some cases, viewing a movie like Encanto, at home may make it easier for those with kids, who need breaks during longer films or if parents want to skip through scenes they may deem inappropriate for their children. Elemental (2023) Elemental continues a trend of recent Pixar movies that leave you thinking, Well, at least it looked amazing. This is a refreshingly intimate and small-stakes story for Pixar, and the film is even more rewarding when read as a story about queerness. Audiences wanted something different.Perhaps, this is more telling of what families want to see in a theater: movies that become a theatrical experience like super hero movies or the upcoming Indiana Jones sequel are more enticing to spend money on because the viewing experience is heightened in a real theater with dozens of other people.Īnimated movies, on the other hand are viewed by millions of people everyday at home, and often time the lack of theatrical experience doesn’t seem to make a difference in at-home viewing and seeing all of the details of a movie. The box office performance of the following films had less to do with the medium in which they were told, instead, they were following one of the most influential waves in animated history and sticking close to the formula. While that era was profitable and influential, it also established a formula that audiences grew tired of. Joining the list of upcoming Pixar sequels is the long-rumored Toy Story 5.As the movie that started it all for Pixar, Toy Story has made way for a franchise that includes TV shows, short films, and even theme park attractions, as well as three sequels. Both those films, as well as many of the other 2D animated films of the era were following the massive wave of success from the Disney Renaissance. It cost 150 million to make and grossed less than 40 million worldwide. The film tells the story of a boy, 9, who sets out to rescue his mother from Martians. The poor box office performance of animated films like Treasure Planet and Atlantis: The Lost Empire was blamed on being 2D animated films as opposed to other factors like poor marketing and the film's stories. Mars Needs Moms (2011) Up until the pandemic, Mars Needs Moms was Disney’s worst-performing film, and it didn’t have Turning Red ’s saving grace of being critically well-received. The following two films, Chicken Little and Meet the Robinson, were computer-animated movies, and the long-in-development Rapanzuel movie, which would later become Tangled, was shifted to a CGI animated film. Disney announced it was shifting from 2D to 3D computer animation after the box office disappointment of Home on the Range. A different way to round on a 5, however, is to round to the nearest even number, so 5.5 would be rounded up to 6, but 8.5 would be rounded down to 8. We should also mention that in some scientific and mathematical "circles," rounding is slightly different "on a 5". ![]() Likewise, for one digit is the number more than half way to 9. Incrementing results in the necessity to regroup the tenths into an extra one whole, so the result is 7.0. Decide to increment since 59 is more than half way to 99. For example: Round 6.959 to the nearest tenth. In that case, some regrouping might be necessary. Of course, the situation gets a little more complicated if the terminating digit is a 9. Lastly, increment the tenths value by 1 to get 4.6. ![]() 50 or more)? It is, so the decision will be to increment. First, truncate the number after the tenths place 4.5|67. Here is a simple example: Round 4.567 to the nearest tenth. A simple strategy for rounding involves truncating, using the digits after the truncation to determine whether the new terminating digit remains the same or gets incremented, then taking action by incrementing if necessary and throwing away the rest. Rounding decimals is similar to rounding whole numbers you have to know your place value! When learning about rounding, it is also useful to learn about truncating since it may help students to round properly.
